Mykonos, Greece

I was looking forward to this day more than any of our other stops on our cruise. Before leaving the States, most people thought that we would love Santorini over Mykonos; however, Mykonos is now one of our favorite cities and a place that I want to revisit ASAP!  Unlike Santorini, which is cliff side and has nice restaurants, Mykonos is right on the water and has much better shopping!

We started the day by taking a quick trip to one of the local beaches, Elia (20 minute taxi ride from downtown). I heard through the grapevine that Mykonos has great beaches and was definitley curious to give them a try.  The entire trip we had been so close yet so far away from sticking our feet into the clear royal blue water, so a beach day was much needed.  Once we were dropped off by the cab driver and placed our things in the beach chair we headed straight for the water.  Boy were we deceived!! The water was SO COLD that our lower body went numb in five minutes and the beach itself was extremely rocky.  (We stilled loved the experience). After a while at the beach, we decided to make our way back into town and shared a taxi with a great couple we met from Australia, Sue & Peter.

The taxi dropped us off back in town with a beautiful view of the city. The town and the people were wonderful as we sat on the wall of the harbor and took in the sites.

{It was VERY windy}

{Taking in the adorable shops that lined the tiny streets}

The windmills can be seen from every point in the village of Mykonos. They are now just a good spot for a picture, but were once used to mill wheat in the 16th century.
